This year in 2019, this competition takes place in Egypt from June 21 to July 19, 2019. According to the decision taken by the Executive Committee of the CAF on July 20, 2017, they moved this tournament from January-February to June and July for the first time. Total teams participating in 2019:
For the first time in the history of the African Cup of Nations, there will be 24 teams. Up to this year, there were 16 teams participating in the tournament.

Election of host countries:
After the deadline, CAF announced the six countries that submitted their candidacy for the 2019 African Cup: Gabon, Algeria, Cote d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guinea, and Zambia.
On September 23, 2013, the African Football Confederation (CAF) opened the process for the reception of candidates by member associations interested in organizing the African Cup of 2019 or the year 2021. The deadline for the delivery of the candidates was set for November 25 of the same year.
However, after a meeting of the CAF Executive Committee held on January 24, 2014, in Cape Town, the previous list was modified and Cameroon entered replacing Gabon.
With the six confirmed candidate countries, the CAF began in April 2014 the inspection period of the cities proposed by each candidate nation.
A delegation constituted by the CAF executive committee inspected hotel facilities, medical centers, airports, training camps, and stadiums, as well as transportation and communication routes. Read more about Cup of nations here.
